In 1969, Arnold Palmer ended a 14-month winless streak with a victory at the inaugural Heritage Classic at Sea Pines Plantation. Shortly after his win, Palmer was recognized as "Athlete of the Decade." His Heritage Classic win brought instant national recognition to the newly opened Harbour Town Golf Links and established Hilton Head firmly in the list of the world’s top golf destinations.
Inside Scoop Hilton Head
Popular off-the-beaten path, hole in the wall restaurants are the Sea Shack as well as Hudsons on the Docks. Both offer great seafood. Best sunset view of the island is definitely the Old Fort Pub overlooking Skull Creek on the site of an historic fort.
Also, check out these fine eateries:
Michael Anthonys - great Italian food and great atmosphere
The Sage Room - small upscale place - very hard to find
The Sea Shack - hole in the wall - great sea food
Horse back riding through Sea Pines Forest Preserve
Shark Fishing out of Shelter Cove Marina
